Even though it is still 90 degrees here in Florida, we did some end of summer chores last weekend. Hubby worked on the yard. I scrubbed the inside. I wiped sticky popsicle fingerprints off the cabinets and appliances and scrubbed all the tile and wood floors. Every year I drag the fall decorations out then clean around them. The light bulb finally clicked to do a thorough cleaning first. Duh mommy brain! I also brewed some homemade potpourri to freshen the air. I used one lemon, one sprig of rosemary, and a dash of vanilla and cinnamon. I had to refill the water a few times but it lasted about 24 hours before I had to pitch it. I really loved the way it smelled simmering on the stove. I’m eager to try some other concoctions this autumn.
Sunday, I ran to the store while hubs brought in the tubs of autumn bliss. I grabbed some coffee cake at Publix and a cup of Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Nothing says Fall like Pumpkin! I’m not sure if I get more excited over pumpkin in my coffee or candles. We used some great recipes last year for French Toast and Mini Cheesecakes using pumpkin that I cant wait to use again. I also want to try throwing pumpkin into brownies and homemade breads. Find recipes here.
The kiddies were excited to dig through the holiday décor and help decorate. They put up some of the leaves and pumpkins. I know its way too early for jack-o-lanterns but if I don’t do it now I wont remember to dig them back out in October. Fall is always so busy for us. I was born near Halloween and my son is a turkey baby. We also have a lot of November birthdays on my husband’s side of the family. So we took advantage of a quiet weekend to get it all done!
Then I finished sprucing up the rest of our cozy home with some more warm autumn touches.
Delicous autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Elliot
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
We finished the weekend with our favorite roasted chicken recipe.
Hoping some cooler weather finds us soon!
